Toyotomi Hideyoshi
Samurai during the Sengaku and Azuchi Momoyama period (1596-1644). In service for Oda Nobunaga, Hideyoshi seized opportunities and distinguished himself as a good soldier. After Nobunga was assassinated by Akechi Mitsuhide at Kyoto Hannoji Temple. Hideyoshi defeated Mitsuhide at the Battle of Yamazaki and took over Nobunaga's power. He placed his only opponent Tokugawa Ieyasu under his authority. Then Hideyoshi built Osaka Castle and then proceeded to unify and rule most of Japan. In the Momoyama period every swordsmiths honed their technical skills to a fine art. Among the masterpieces restored was Toyotomi Hideyoshi's favorite sword the Shunuri Kinhirumaki-saya with sabonsugi (three cedars pattern) by Magoroku was restored to it's original state.
