Bizen Osafune Mitsutada Daisho
(Mid-Kamakura period 1232-1287)
Osafune Mitsutada was a swordsmith in the middle of the Kamakura Era and also known as founder of the Osafune school. His tachi (a curved sword with a blade longer than 60 cm) were unique for their strength and most of his swords have Ikubi kissaki which refers to the types of tips on any given sword . The literally meaning is (" Wild boar-neck kissaki.") a kissaki ( a swords tip or point) that is shorter than it is wide. He was also known for his blending of different traditional patterns such as Kawazuko choji which is a merging of two well known patterns the Choji and the Gunome patterns, will become to be known as Tobiyaki. His blades have a dynamic style all their own, and he was considered among one of the top swordsmiths of his time, with other's such as Yoshifusa, Norifusa, and Sukezane to mention just a few. His work caught the attention of Oda Nobunaga who was at the time head Shogun of the region. Oda Nobunaga really was very fond of Mitsutada work and had many of his swords in his collection.
