Bizen Osafune Kagemitsu Daisho
(Late Kamakura period 1288-1337)
Known as the son of his famous father Nagamitsu, Osafune Kagemitsu had accomplished much in his own right. His style shown his own originality just as his father Nagamitsu and Mitsutada another well known swordsmith. He had named a sword Saemoni which was well represented of the Osafune-kaji.
One of his best swords was made famous by the Emperor Meiji (1852-1912) it was claimed to be the Emperor's favorite sword.
Unlike other swordsmiths Kagemitsu's swords used many different patterns, such as Kataochi (a sawtooth pattern) and Suguchoji (a multi, bag shaped).
His style of engraving was also well known, the Kurikararyu pattern (a dragon winding around a sword). was also made famous by him.
