Shindogo Kunimitsu
(Mid Kamakura period 1232-1287)
Shindogo Kunimitsu was the master swordsmith teacher to the masters in the Kamakura Era. Some of his students Yukimitsu and Masamune had also became well known. Although Kunimitsu had master secret methods of metallurgy such as the Awataguchi-den and Bizen-den. Not only succeeding these methods, but he started his own method which was called Soshu-den in later years. He became as well known for his Suguha technique as his master Awataguchi Yoshimitsu. The tanto (blades shorter than 30 cm in length) was also another factor for his fame.
